How to write a parent brag sheet

Many counselors ask parents to describe their child in a "parent brag sheet". Your stories give the counselor a side of your student they don't see at school. Here are the questions schools usually ask and how to answer them well.
Common parent brag sheet questions
- What do you consider your child's most outstanding accomplishments in the past three years?
- List three or four words that describe your child, with an example for each.
- What are your child's greatest strengths? Areas for growth?
- Has your child faced any unusual challenges or circumstances?
- Is there anything else the counselor should know when writing the recommendation?
Tips for parents
- Use specific moments, not general praise – "she rebuilt her study schedule after a tough semester" beats "she's a hard worker".
- Include context the school may not know: family responsibilities, a move, a job, a health challenge.
- Keep it to one or two pages and write in your own voice.
- Stick to facts – counselors can tell when a sheet is exaggerated.
